Lightbox is a script used to overlay images on a web page. It's very popular among blogs especially photoblogs. There is a Wordpress plugin available to easily apply the lightbox effect on your Wordpress blogs. But there are also way on how to use lightbox on your Blogger or Blogspot blogs.

The process is very, very simple.

First, go to your Blogger HTML editor. Then place the following code directly above the </head> tag:

If you are familiar with HTML, you'll see that we just linked the image to it's source and added the rel="lightbox" parameter. Simple, right? If you don't get it, don't worry. You don't have to. I'll explain how to use it when uploading pictures on Blogger.

When you upload an image in Blogger, it looks like this:

Further tweaking:

See the width: 170px; height: 147px;" part? You can play with those values to get the right size of the image thumbnail you want.

Personally, I just remove it totally and set all the image heights to a constant value for all images (I often use 200). It looks cleaner that way. I use the height="YOURDESIREDHEIGHT" command instead of height: YOURDESIREDHEIGHTpx; because it's easier and Blogspot auto-scales if you don't set a width.

That means you can remove the whole width: 170px; height: 147px;" part and just replace it with height="YOURDESIREDHEIGHT".

It'll look like this:

Received 2nd Nuffnang Earnings

Just recently, I cashed out my 2nd Nuffnang earnings. And again, everything went very smoothly.

Days after I cashed out, I saw my earnings on my Union Bank EON account. (Which btw, I have to pay the annual fee next month since I got it March 2010.)

Nuffnang charges a processing fee and I guess the extra difference is for tax. But still, I'm happy. Though most of it is all gone because of my birthday celebration.

Adserve.ph - New Local Ad Network In The Philippines

Thanks to a Facebook ad, I discovered a new ad network that serves ads targeted locally for a Philippines audience.

The ad network's name is adserve.ph. And so far, it looks promising. The copyright at the bottom of the website shows only 2011 so I'm guessing that the ad network is pretty new. And it looks promising.

Application takes about a day and once you're in, you can start serving ads. Here are my inital observations or review -

Customization is a lot like Adsense - banner only / text only or both with the common ad shapes and sizes. You can change the colors of your ads on the fly and they have an immediate effect. A drawback is that once you have chosen your ad type (text/banner), you can't change it later. You also can't chane ad border colors. This can have a huge effect when you try to blend your ads to your site's layout.

You can choose if the ads will be based on your site's context or from keywords you specify. You enter the keywords manually in each code block you place.

Payment can be via Paypal, check or Bank Pay. You have to request a withrawal for paymetns. The minimum for Paypal is 500Php (around the same price as Chitika).

I just started serving ads earlier today and so far have gotten 400+ impressions with no clicks. Looks like it's gonna be another struggle with CTR. I'm just waiting to see how much each click pays.

Since the ad network is very young, ads are very limited. Of the four ads on one block that I see, two to three are from adserve.ph themselves. There is also a fear that the site might not pay. But so far, so good. I hope this goes well.

Up until now, I think Nuffnang is the only country-specific advertising network in the Philippines. We'll see if Adserve.ph can compete with them.

Paypal Withrawal To UnionBank Philippines

Before 2010 ended, I made another withrawal from my Paypal accoun to my Union Bank account.

The process is pretty easy. But I was hesitant to do it at the time knowing that I won't be able to get my money quickly anyway since it's the holidays and there is a chance that things could go wrong since everyone is on holiday mode. Anyway, I did go through it and to my luck- nothing went wrong.

An ongiong problem for online earners for a while now, the exchange rate is still not favoring the Dollar. :'(

I withrew barely above 7,000 Php just to avoid the 50 Php transaction fee and because I am poor and I don't have much money on my Paypal.

Earnings mostly came from CPALead, oDesk and adf.ly along with a few paid-to-blog services like Blogsvertise and inPostLinks.

Second Nuffnang Payment Coming Up

Just recently, I hit the 2000 Php Nuffnang threshold for the second time. I have been paid by them once last year and after waiting for months, I can expect another payment again.

I'm gonna be paid more this time, too! :)

This time, I'll be paid at least Php 2,894.88 minus the Php 1 transaction charge of course. Why 'at least'? Because I'll cash out the the end of the month. Nuffnang suggests publishers to cash out at the end of the month because they process payments at the start of the following month. So if any of my other campaigns mature before the end of January 2011, it'll add up to the amount I can cash out. Just like before, I'll withraw it to my Union Bank account.

Another Adf.ly Payment Proof

They may not be the best income stream but they sure do get the job done. If you are sometimes feeling needy and want to monetize every single click going out of your website, you can use adf.ly. Again, they may not pay as much as other Adsense but hey at least you still earned something from that visitor who left your blog!

However, use adf.ly in moderation. Intersitial ads can be very annoying.

This is my second payment from adf.ly. The first one was from June 2010.

Local Companies Taking Full Advantage Of Facebook

Local companies have finally realized that being visible on Facebook means more than just setting up a Fan Page and/or putting up a CPC campaign.

Local campanies are throwing online contests here and there and every one of them is hoping to get massive user participation and a viral effect.

A lot of these companies are holding online contests on Facebook to attract people. Some are even 'forcing' users to Like their Fan Pages. That's understandable. However, I am uncomfortable with those Fan Pages that require you to grant access to a Facebook App. I do not see the need for that so far. The Fan Page structure is already fairly capable. Why would they still need to use Apps?

I'm uncomfortable because once you have granted them access and permission, some Apps have the ability to post on your wall or your friends' walls in the future without your further consent. I smell spam.

Opting-out of these applications is not that simple too. Facebook has hidden the Applications Menue from its previous location. Before, it can be accessed from the Account drop-down on the upper right corner. It can't be accessed that way anymore.

The good thing is all I see now is the potential for spam. I have not seen any local company abusing the Facebook App platform like some greedy Internet Marketers.

How To Remove A Facebook Application's Access To Your Profile

When you want to use an Application in Facebook like games and such, you have to grant access and permissions to that application. Sometimes, it only asks for your personal information but there are also times when it will ask you for your email address and worse, these applications sometimes ask for permission to post on your wall or on your friends' wall. That makes me very uncomfortable.

Granting access to applications can potentially lead to a very spammy problem. If you see those status updates like -

OMG!! I literally did this and that when I saw this and that! OMG! OMG! OMG!!

...it's most likely caused by those applications.

Now how do we revoke access from those pesky applications? Simple.

Log-in to your Facebook account and go to this page:

http://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=applications

You'll get this screen:

On the screen above, click on the 'X' button on the right that corresponds to the App you want to remove.

Then click on Remove.

...and you're done.

Where Text Spammers Get Your Cellphone Numbers

Promotion means getting your brand name visible in as many places as you can. For Internet Marketers, that's your URL or website name. Just recenlty I just found a spammy method in action for offline promotion.

It started when I was looking for online sellers when I was buying my Canon EOS 500D. I texted a bunch of online retailers and within 20 minutes I got a text from an unlisted number offering me cash loans. I would follow up on some sellers a few days later and just after I text them, I always get a spam text again. Coincidence? I think not.

I actually thought of this a while back when I received a spam text months ago. That time, I was getting spam texts for health products. I wanted to know where these people are getting their leads. Then when I went to nearby store for Autoload, that's where it hit me. I saw the list of phone numbers that the tindera has for Autoload and Eload. I'm guessing text marketers ask for this list or they buy them from sari-sari stores and loading stations.

And now, I found another source of their leads. Online retailers are possibly selling the phone numbers of their customers to loan agencies and other text spammers. Think about it: the list is super-targeted because online shoppers tend to spend a lot because they love gadgets and they have the money to pay for it.

Is it ethical? Of course not. This is equivalent to database administrators selling email addresses. That is one of the reasons you get email spam.

What does this have to do with Internet Marketing and blogging? Well, Obviously online spammers can also get their hands on these cellphone numbers and promote their website on text blasts. And with the price of cellphones and SIM cards nowadays, marketing is getting cheaper and cheaper everyday.

How to properly take advantage of this? Just like regular list building, you can make this an opt-in thing. When you get their cell number, ask for permission if they can be texted for promotional purposes. I can't imagine how to do that at this level though. This is where your creativity comes in. How To Dramatically Increase Your Adsense Earnings

No, I'm not talking about that screenshot generator. This is a real process to increase your earnings. And I'll keep it short and sweet.

1. Traffic - There is no way around it. You need to have traffic. This is the most important part. Do NOT proceed if you are not able to get traffic. Most common ways are through SEO, online advertising and using social media like Facebook and Twitter.

2. CTR Analysis - each niche has a different CTR. This part is kinda tricky. Explore around money making forums and blogs and check what is your niche's ideal CTR. This is kinda tricky because publishing your CTR is prohibited. But every now and then, there are helpful guides that you'll find.

3. Action Step - if you determine that you have a good CTR, then pump up your traffic. Or probably it might be time to expand to a new niche or new website?

If your CTR is down, check your traffic source. Certain traffic types generate more ad clicks. If you have nailed those down and if your CTR is still down, time to change the placement of your ads. The most popular ones are as follows :

- just above or below your blog header. Just make sure that you have a proper blog header.

- just under the post name, before the content when displaying a single post in one page.

- just above the post name of the topmost post.

- immediately following the post. After users read your article, they have a "what's next?" feeling, thus we put links to related posts at the end. Place an ad there too. If the ad is captivating enough, readers will click on it.

Avoid putting ads on the page footer. This place gets little attention. Sidebar ads still work but are not as good as ads in the content.

Split test. Use smaller left or right floating ads under the post name, just before the post content or full (content width) ads. Mix up text and image ads. Floating ads are not popular at the end of the post. But you can still try and mix up text and image ads.

Change. If you feel that you have sufficient traffic and good CTR and things are still not working for you, it might be time to try a new niche or ad network.

My Amnesia Girl Viral Video Ad Campaign

I love My Amnesia Girl so this video caught my attention. I thought it was funny. But something else about the video caught my interest.

The video has gone viral with 1.3 million views in around two weeks.

It was ingenious on the part of the advertiser to use the power of viral videos. The campaign is funny, timely and relevant. BUT (and this is a big but) I wonder if they have the permission to use the audio from My Amnesia Girl? This is equivalent to copyright infringement if they did not seek proper authorization.

First AdBrite Payment

It's always nice when an advertiser pays you. Just today I got my first payment from AdBrite.

It's just one piece of paper. I've had Adbrite for more than a year in some of my blogs. Though I only use it as a filler for Adsense. I place it on areas where I feel that I can put more ads when I have maxed out my Adsense units. At times, I even forget that I have them on.

But this is good news to those who are wondering if Adbrite pays. Obviously, they do.

I'm gonna go out and see how I can encash this. I'll check if I need a dollar bank account or if a local one will do. I'll also look into getting it encashed somewhere else.

If it proves too much of a hassle, I'll leave Adbrite completely. It's not worth it. Ads aren't as targeted as Adsense, setting up takes too long and now this. This amount isn't even enough to pay one month's Internet bills.

If I encash this with no problems, I'll consider using their ads still.

I also prefer to keep all my earnings in one place - Paypal. If I do leave Adbrite, I'll look for banner ad providers that pay via Paypal. Any suggestions?

Wasted Opportunity - When Your Video Goes Viral And No One Knows It's Yours

In this day and age, viral marketing is surely the way to go. It is arguably more profitable and gives a faster (and bigger?) ROI than SEO. When your content goes viral, it's literally a matter of days, or even hours and you will be reaping off the rewards.

Just take the dancing flight attendants. In a matter of six weeks, it got over nine million views. Someone in Cebu Pacific certainly got promoted or got a big bonus.

While those stories are inspiring, there are some that make me feel kind of sad because of the lost opportunity. Case in point : the dancing Jollibee mascot video. The original uploader is practically unknown. The video has been downloaded and reuploaded accross several websites numerous times. Its copies have gone viral. Had the original uploader made a simple video watermark of his branding (name or URL), then he would have benefited from his efforts of filming the funny dancing mascot. Big media companies are reaping the rewards of this Internet gem at practically no cost.

Filipinos need to start being more aware of online marketing and stop giving away their media content for free. It's not about selfishness, it's about getting what you deserve for your efforts and making the most of what you own. Why submit your content to YouScoop or BMPM when you can host your own video or photos and have people gravitate towards you? It's like you are working as a reporter for these networks for free. I say watermark your image or video, set up a YouTube account or put up a blog (free or otherwise) and send a link of your own content to these media giants. If your content is good enough, they'll be forced to feature it. Voila! You have an instant Web identity.

Filipino Advertisers Are Wasting Money On Facebook Advertising

I believe that Facebook is the next big thing in advertising. The way users are super-targeted according to their profile and interests is very powerful. It is good that Filipinos are harnessing this power but it's sad to see that a lot of them don't know how to use it effectively and are throwing away money out the window with ineffective ads.

I don't know how much it costs to hire copywriters but if you can afford to buy ads, might as well hire ad copywriters. Otherwise, your ads will be for nothing. I am not exactly a copywriter, I am just speaking from an average user's point of view. I'm an average user with a little knowledge on Internet Marketing. And these are my thoughts on the matter -

Take for example :

The first one is entitled Chevrolet Philippines. A non-car enthisuast would not be interested with that. Thank goodness they hired a popular actor as their model. But why not maximize that fact? They have a very effective ad description : "Who is Ryan Agoncillo's New Love?" Why not use that phrase as the ad title? It will surely attract more clicks. The same is true for the bottom ad. Who would be attracted by the "Gimme Points" phrase anyway? It might invite a few curious eyes, but wouldn't the phrase "Get A Free Nokia Phone" be more effective?

Here is an example of a more effective ad :

Engaged couples or any couples or anyone who know someone getting married would surely be captured by the title. Which couple wouldn't be interested in a free dream wedding?

The title is bolded and written in a bigger font for a reason. You should put in your catchiest lines on there.

Where Has Blogging Ethics Gone?

I read a post earlier today. I noticed something about it. It kinda ticked me off. I don't know why I'm so touchy these days.

So I was reading this post with several images on it. The blog author's images are generously watermaked with their URL. The watermarks are humongous as if shouting:

THIS ARE MY IMAGES! DO NOT STEAL IT. MAKE USE OF YOUR OWN FUCKING IMAGES!

I did something like that too, make no mistake. I thought it was kinda cute and fun.

What I found undesirable on that blog is the lack of credits for the images that the do not belong to the blogger. They used several images on the post that are not theirs and I did not find any credits at all. And these are not simple images like popular logo's or Internet meme's. They are not exactly public domain stuff if you ask me.

I admit this happens to me too. I sometimes forget to credit images, put the proper links or bold/italicize certain words I want to. But I always try my best to ensure my posts are accurate, complete and appropriate.

I found this other different. Their blog is loaded with carefully placed ad widgets, social media buttons and all that blogging jazz, they even have a Copyscape widget. All affiliate links are accurately placed and bolded. They even set up a custom commenting system. (which is a wonder for me since they are using Wordpress. I always kinda thought that custom commenting systems are more for non-WP blogs because let's face it, Blogger's (among others) commenting system sucks. But that's just me and that's a different issue.) And the clincher : the right-click is even disabled! Needless to say, they did their homework -almost.

I found this very hypocritical. If you are going to be anal and overprotective of your work, have the decency to NOT steal other people's work or at least give credit where and when it is due. I guess what I am saying is that if you are going to be anal about your ownership and control over your online content, have the decency to credit others when you use theirs. Even if you see an image repeatedly shared and virtually hosted everywhere, you should at least credit your source because still, you did not create that. It is something you took from someone else. You have the time and effort to place giant, ugly watermarks, disable the right-click button and place a Copyscape widget and yet you can't even place a single link to your image source? Why? For SEO? For CTR? For aesthetics? Bullshit.

Earnings are low this August. My blogging laziness continues and for some reason, Youtube is not ranking my videos. Worse, my CPALead EPC is waaaaaaaaaaaay down. I am trying to move to Facebook (a little late) and it is so freaking hard over there now. I got like 10 accounts already roadblocked.

Anyway

Adsense - $31.52 My Adsense blog was banned. They said I linked to copyrighted content. Frustrating since it's not even getting 500 uniques and other waaaaay more popular and high-traffic websites running Adsense even embed copyrighted content. Oh well.

Adbrite - $1.08 - lol. But I just reached my first $20! I'm waiting for my check.

Blogsvertise - $18 from two posts. Money will be coming in September.

Payperpost - I got my first PPP job. It's a $2.50 blog post. Payout will come in September too.

Nuffnang - Php1,492.14 available as of end of August.

CPALead - $78.59 this is where is hurts most. Youtube vids not ranking properly and EPC is going down.

Advertmarketing - $9.02 - a new CPA network I signed-up with. I'm learning a lot more about CPA.

oDesk - $105.03

Total is $277.74

Definitely less than last month's. To calculate for Nuffnang's earnings, I just subtracted the available funds from last month and converted it to dollars at 45 is to 1.

How To Hide Content In the Blogspot Home Page

I don't mean implementing the  function. I'm talking about hiding RSS / Sharing / ads from the home page. Previously, you just have to put the code for these plugins after the <data:post.body> code in Blogspot and then you're set. This changed when Blogger launched their new templates and functions.

Implementing this is still fairly simple though. Just look for <data:post.body> like before. Place the code of whatever you want hidden from the homepage after that but put it between the following lines:

So your code will look like this :

CODE OF WHATEVER YOUR WANT TO HIDE FROM THE HOMEPAGE. THIS PART WILL ONLY BE SHOWN WHEN THE POST IS VIEWED.

You can place this either above or under <data:post.body>. If you place it above, it will be shown right after the post title and above the post content.

Remember to parse your HTML before using this.

How To Use Facebook Commenting In Blogspot

Facebook is making its presece all over the web. Now everyone, even those with no blogs or websites can leave an identity easily when they comment on blog posts.

Here is what it looks like:

The bottom of your blog post is going to look like Facebook. Readers will use their Facebook profiles to leave comments. And if they leave the little checkbox ticked, you can have a possible viral effect. Nice.

Here is how to do it:

1) Put in the following code immediately after the opening <body> tag:

That is the Facebook Javascript SDK code. You need it for some Facebook functions to work on your website. That is not the actual code for the comment box.

The <data:post.body> is your post content. So you are going to put the actual code for the comment box after that. The code for the comment box can be obtained here. You can set the width and the number of comments to display. I just left the Unique Id field blank and it worked well on my other blog.

Using this has its own advantages and disadvantages though. Remember to hide it on your Blogspot homepage.

This can be applied on Wordpress too. Just put the code in singlepost.php (or whatever file your theme uses.)

Ok here I go again. For the past two months, I have been doing this wrong. I was listing the amount I was paid for that month instead of the actual amount earned. But starting this month, I'll be doing it right. Let's go.

Here are my earnings.

Adsense - $47.82 I have practically done no SEO work on my blogs. I think I posted once or twice on Social Bookmarking sites. This is what I get. I should really post more.

oDesk - $62.52 What I like about this is that I know that this will most likely increase in the following months.

Nuffnang - Php 346.24 available as of end of July. But I still have a lot of campaigns. Hope to bank from them soon.

Infolinks - $6.64 I can never get the trick with Infolinks. I mean, I'm happy with it and all but I can;t even increase my earning to one dollar a day.

CPALead - $186.50 Obviously my favorite. I'm still trying to learn a lot of methods with CPALead too.

AdBrite - $2.24 I have this on a few blogs. I only got this as a supplement to Adsense.

Last month, I earned $281.18. This month I made $ 313.32 Not bad, but not good enough. Must work smarter.

How To Setup A Custom Domain For A Blogger Blog

I used to have a lot of difficulty with this. But when I got used to it, I kinda laugh at myself for having such a hard time before.

The first thing you do is go to your domain registrar's conrol panel or dashboard or what ever it's called. Make sure that you have bought a domain name already.

Locate where you can configure your domain name's DNS. Not NS but DNS. It's should be screen where you can enter records that ask for different types liks A, CNAME, MX, etc.

Once you are on that screen, start entering records. You should enter four records with the name of your domain. For example: thisisyournewdomain.com

But each record should have a different value, namely:

216.239.32.21
216.239.34.21
216.239.36.21
216.239.38.21

And they should all be type A.

Then setup a new record with the name www.thisisyournewdomain.com

Notice that I added "www" then the value for that record would be:

ghs.google.com

And the type would be CNAME.

Now you can return to your Blogger dashboard screen. Go to:

Settings >> Publishing >> Custom Domain >> Switch to advanced settings

then enter www.thisisyournewdomain.com

then fill in the captcha and hit Save Settings.

Sometimes the effect is immediate, sometimes it's not. If you have difficulties, you can always consult Help.

Take note of your Alexa and PR though. They will be affected when you get a new domain.

June Earnings

I did this last May and I feel that I want to do this every month. So here it goes. Here are my Make Money Online numbers for June 2010.

Blogsvertise paid me $9 again too. I have another $10 due from Blogsvertise, should get it before this week ends.

But my favorite has got to be CPALead. I received $147.7 on my Paypal account. Thanks to CPALead.

I also cashed out on oDesk. I was not able to blog about it though. I got $58.55 from them.

And my Adsense earning was $55.93. Wow, I suck at Adsense. This happens when you don't update your blog often and don't build links enough. My traffic on my Adsense-dependent blogs went significantly down last June.

So I made around $281.18 last June. I'm thankful and all but I don't like it. This must increase.

Something Funky Is Happening To My Internet

I really don't know if I should post it here or on my personal blog. But anyway, here it goes.

A few things first. I have a free hosting service from Jehzlau-concepts. Yes, the man is giving away free hosting and domains. Well, I obviously am not using it here. Since this is Blogger-powered. So even if I love Google services very much, I can still say I'm pretty well-rounded as have fair amount of experience with wordpress.org blogs.

Anyway, that I got for free blog is awesome. I can I say that on a non-lazy day, I can generate a fair amount of traffic to it. It's not an SEO blog. I have a specific source of traffic for that blog. And if I put a fair amount of work on it, I can give it 2k-3k uniques in a few hours - no blackhat involved. But I have been rather busy the past several days and I also find myself running out of ideas to post.

But even if I can bring that much traffic to that blog, the hosting allowance is still very much in excess. I am not using a lot of disk space and bandwidth. So I feel that I am wasting resources - not good. This made me decide to buy a new domain from Godaddy. I thought it be easy enough to set it up since I'll just be adding domains through cPanel.

I started getting a cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi cPanel error. I have set-up added the domains in cPanel. I had trouble at first - I was getting an error message but I was able to add it later on successfully. After a few hours of tinkering, I gave it a rest and decided to sleep on it. I figured maybe things are still updating. I did send an error ticket to cPanel just in case.

The next day I recieved an email from Jehz with info about the error ticket. He is my webhost provider, naturally communication will go through him. But then I got another email from him saying that ther is no problem with the domain. I felt kinda glad. I thought maybe things have updated and I'll get to set up my new website. I didn't expect to see the bluish-green error screen anymore.

But I did.

And this time, I was on my iPod Touch. So it cannot be my browser nor my cookies. I'm on a whole other device. It can't be my exact IP since it's dynamic. I thought maybe its my DNS settings. So I forced some known working Globe DNS alternatives (instead of setting it on auto) on my machine but still nothing. This fix worked on my brother's Internet connection. It didn't for me. I was left to conclude that it's my ISP or IP family.

I tried with ninjacloak and hidemyass and behold! - I got my website. Sure, it was an empty white screen since I haven't installed any scripts or websites/blogs yet but that should be the screen I am getting instead of the error screen:

I also asked a lot of people - no one is seeing the error screen. Just me! Confused, I was.

Anyway, fast forward to the next day, I got my white screen (yay!) and was able to install a script. I just thought that maybe things were really just updating and it's just a little slow on my end.

But earlier tonight, I wanted to check Jehzlau-concepts because he is giving away an android phone. But I got a Page Cannot Be Displayed. I checked my blog (which he is hosting) and sure enough, it was down too. So I thought maybe he's having a few technical issues, no biggie. But when I checked it on Downforeveryone, it's up! Then I tried ninjacloak and hidemyass again. Jehzlau-concepts blog is up.

So it means the problem is just on my end! What the hell is going on? I am no expert in Webhosting but I know a fair bit about home Internet connection matters and problems. I have a hunch that it's with Globe since not too long ago, I found out that Globe (as an ISP) is blocking some adult sites. (No, I'm not a pervert. Just don't ask how I found out.) And how using proxy websites or software allowed customers to access them. Mind you, Globe was able to block that site even through a proxy like ninjacloak. I had to use the software to see it.

Anyway, there's not much I can do now. I just hope that this doesn't happen again.

PS - I know I said a lot of words (and claims) with very minimal screengrabs to prove them. Everything was happening so fast and I didn't think I 'd write about this that I wasn't able to take any screenshots.

2 Very Easy Ways To Make Your Blogger Blog Look More Professional

While powerful in its own right, Blogger blogs (and thusly, the author) using default blogger themes lose a fair bit of online cred since Blogger is totally free.

Unless you're someone who can create super-tight content like Geo Hot who uses default Blogger themes, your blog wont get far if you don't use a premium theme or at least modify a Blogger theme.

Here are two things you can do to immediately boost your blogs look and credibility.

1. Change your Favicon. - the icon near the address bar hurts you more than yo know it. It gives the impression that the reader is not on the author's personal realm on the Web. It tells them that you're just on a free, charity apartment. You can't afford your own place. While that may be true, we don't need to rub it in the reader's face. Changing this icon gives the reader a feeling that he is in the author's personalized space and/or the author/blogger has a least a little knowledge to make his blog more visually appealing.

2. Remove your Navbar. -while the Navbar has exclusive features from Blogspot, just like the case above, it gives off the same feeling to your readers. I would suggest removing it too.

Some people (like me) still prefer to use themes provided by Blogger. I personally use it because I find the coding to be clean. It's easier to customize. Some free themes online have very custommized codes that I get lost in the sea of HTML just trying to make a minor change.

Anyway, to remove the Blogger Navbar, here is what you do:

Go to the HTML editor of your blog.

Then look for ]]> in the code. It's usually followed by something like

</b:skin>

If you can't find it on your keyboard, it's usually located around the Enter key.

Then paste this code above that:

#navbar { display: none; }

That's it. You're done!

Sharing Tips - A Make Money Online Eco Balance

Excellent content is what powers most online money makers. So by theory, the more solid content you share, the more money you'll make right? Not always.

This is something I found out not so long ago. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against sharing and being generous. I am very thankful to those kind people around the Internet from which I learned from. If not for them, I would not be making any money online.

It's not about stopping others from making money. It's about doing a greater good for the community. I learned this from CPALead people. You see, if you're lucky enough to come up with your own unique formula to make money with CPALead (or with any other money making programs), it would not be healthy to share it with the whole community. Why? It will saturate the niche/method.

And what happens with a saturated market? It does not flourish. More people end up not making any money at all. Let's face it, each one of us is in competition with one another. For some who are relying on Internet income for a living, revealing your secrets is synonymous to giving up your livelihood. Think of it this way: if I found out a super-effective link-building technique and shared it to everyone, then everyone will do it. If everyone does it, then do you think it'll still be that effective for anyone? Everyone ends up with nothing. You end up with an over-used, now-ineffective method. And since it didn't work well for anyone either, it will not do much good for your cred. Sure they'll think you're nice, but not someone who gives effective tips. Everyone ends up a loser.

This is why you see hundreds of people selling their methods/secrets instead of just sharing them for free. It's not just about making money for yourself.

If you just give away your methods for free, it becomes less effective. And consequently, you make less money. For online money-making hobbyists, this might not be a big problem, but for those looking for real income from the Internet, this is serious. How do you compensate? You sell it. This way, you still share it with the community and other people get to benefit from it but you don't sacrifice your income. The method is also not compromised that much and it becomes open to people for improvement. Everyone wins.

It's about balance. Know which piece of information to share, sell or keep on your own. -for everyone's,including your own, good.

I mentioned last month that I just started making more (serious) money from CPALead and this month, they sent me the payment.

Ok so how serious was the money I made? Let's put it this way, I signed up last January thanks to Macuha.com. For a while I was always curious what those gateways were. I had a feeling they had something to do with making money online and I wanted to try it out but I didn't know what they were called. And thaks to Macuha.com, I found out what it was.

CPALead is for higher value content. Back at that time, I didn't think I have much high value content that I can lock behind a CPALead gateway. I still tried it with some of my blogs though. With the little traffic I had, I did make some money - a few dollars. But I eventually removed it since it was hurting my Adsense earnings.

But recently, I had an urge to try it out again. I was exploring the CPALead website, mainly the chat and marketplace section, to get an idea on how to make earnings with CPALead. I found a few ways on what content to use and how to promote it. Of course SEO is one of the best ways to get traffic to your content but I found out a few more which are as effective if not better.

With a little luck, I made around $120 in two days. That's right. I made $60 each day. From January to May, I made around $20. But towards the end of May, I got lucky and made $120.

And this month, I have around $110 dollars in my MTD (month-to-date) earnings.

With the several ways of making money online, I can say that paid reviews is not my best forte. Although I love to write, writing doesn't love me. So, there...

I love Nuffnang! They are awesome. I finally reached the 2,000 Php threshold and cashed out.

I cashed out near the end of the month which is advisable for Nuffnang cashouts. I was not that excited since I was expecting around 60 before I get my money.

With Nuffnang, it's all about traffic (duh!) and the survey. Ensure that you answer the survey as accurately as possible so that you'll have ads on your site often.

The good thing about Nuffnang is it's directed to local traffic specifically. So that attracts more attention and thus, clicks.

Also, when I sent a ticket to their customer support, they were quick to answer.

In one of my earlier posts I have mentioned oDesk. But what is it really?

oDesk is basically an employment portal for those looking for a job online and for those looking to hire help. That means you can either sign-up as a "buyer" - someone who is looking to hire people to do stuff for them, you are buying services. Or you can sign-up as a "provider" - you are providing the services and you are getting paid.

What's appealing about oDesk is that they have literally hundreds of jobs waiting for you. That means you don't need to learn anything new to make money online. You can look for a job that you already know how to do.

You can either work (or hire people) on an hourly basis or on a fixed rate. It depends upon the buyer. The rates are, of course, based on the difficulty of the job.

Before you start working though, you sign-up and complete the oDesk readiness test. The test is not at all difficult. It might take a some time but its not hard. It's implemented to ensure that new users are familiar with the oDesk system.

For providers - Once you see job that you like, just ensure that you can do what is asked then apply for the job. You then wait for the buyer's response (typically in under 48 hours). Then you will be asked to be in contact via email, chat or Skype to discuss the terms of the job. Then your buyer decides if he will hire you.

May Was A Good Make Money Online Month

First of all, I got another Google Adsense payment from Western Union. I got $133.91

Tip when getting payments from Western Union: Ensure that you can get your payments to even hundreds or the lowest possible value. Western Union only has 100-dollar bills and any value in excess they pay in Pesos. This is good if you are withrawing during a period when the Dollar is strong against the Peso. For example, if your earnings are $124, then they pay you the $100 and pay the $24 in Peso equivalent.

Moving on, I also got my first payment from Nuffnang. I barely surpassed the Php2000 threshold, lol. I got Php2,084.21

4 Things To Remember When Changing Your Blogspot Theme

Changing blog themes too often is one of the things you should avoid. But what to do when your old theme is not working anymore? What will you do when your CTR is continuously plummeting? Yep, sometimes you have to realize when its time to move on and get a new theme.

But you don't just go ahead and change your them just like that. Although blogging platforms like Blogger and Wordpress have made it so simple that it doesn't even take ten clicks to do it, it really is not that simple at all. But its not that hard too, don't worry.

Assuming you have picked a new one, here are a few things to remember when changing your themes:

1. Header. Check your blog's HTML code and see if you have inserted any HTML code in your header. The most common codes inserted on the header are meta tags, the favicon code and CPALead code. If you have modified your title tag for SEO, remember to do it again after you change your theme.

2. Body. Check your blog's <data:post.body> section. Check for any gadgets or widgets you have inserted. The most common things added on this area are:

Ads
Share buttons - for Facebook, Twitter etc...
RSS/Subscription button
Related Posts gadget

3. Footer. Check your blog's footer area for any HTML you might have added. Most common codes added here are the Google Analytics code, footer links and such. These are placed typically around the </body> area.

4. Widgets. Good thing about Blogger is it now saves all the sidebar, footer and header widgets you put in using the Layout --> Page Elements page. Just last year, that was not the case. Back then, you had to manually backup each widget. After changing your theme, check all your widgets and see if they fit the new theme.

Changing themes is also a good way to get rid of those un-needed HTML codes and widgets on your blog.

Remember, do not change your theme too often. Your theme is kind of like your logo. Big brands and big companies almost never change their logos because its how they are easily identified. As a blogger, your web presence should be like that - quickly identifiable and easily remembered.

How To Change Your Favicon

First, what the hell is a Favicon? Well, its that tiny, small icon beside the address bar. Why should you change it? So that your blog or website will have a more professional look. You don't really want that blank icon or that Blogspot icon do you?

1. Go to your blog's HTML editor.

For Blogger, go to Layout --> Edit HTML

For Wordpress, go to Appearance --> Editor --> Header (header.php)

2. Then insert this code after the <head> tag but before the </head> closing tag:

3. Save your work and you're done.

Small and square images work best. As far as I know, you can use any image file and icon file (.ico).

How To Make Your Blogger or Blogspot Comment Author Links Dofollow

I have removed the nofollow attribute from my personal blog's comment author link and it has done that blog good. For one, it it has increased traffic and comments because of link builders continuously looking for dofollow blogs. But the downside is that I am getting spam comments on that blog too.

If you want to remove the nofollow attribute on your Blogger or Blogspot blog too, I suggest making a comment policy post to help avoid spam comments.

Here is how to make your Blogspot or Blogger comment author links dofolllow:

1. Go to Layout --> Edit HTML
2. Check on Expand Widget Templates
3. Look for the following code:

<a href="data:comment.authorUrl" rel="nofollow">

4. Simple remove the rel='nofollow' part.
5. Then you can check if your comment author links dofollow by using SearchStatus.

2 Quick Ways To SEO Your Images

Images are a great source of SEO traffic. Simple. Google didn't put the Image search next to Web search for no reason. People love to look for images and its about time you take advantage of that.

I am using only a few ways to SEO for images and it works pretty well.

1) Filename. The user won't see your image file name. Use all your targeted keywords for the file name of your image before you upload. it.

2) Alt="" attribute. A normal image HTML code looks like this:

<img src="URL of the picure">

Just add the alt="" attribute to that code. It should look like this:

<img src="URL of the picure" alt="keywords targeted" >

The alt text will be displayed while the image is loading or if the image is unavailable. Just stuff the alt attribute with all the keywords you need.

I have read in John Chow's book that one of the first steps in making money online is getting your own domain. You have to establish your name on the Web. Having your own .com domain boosts your credibility as an Internet citizen.

While that is true, a lot of people have made a killing online without getting their own domain. Though the concept is debatable nowadays, there are bloggers banking on the Content is King idea. They continue to eat up what ever she delivers and everyone is happy. Just how big is her blog? If you check out her sidebar, you'll see she has won blog of year awards for years in a row. She also made a killing at last year's Nuffnang blog awards. She is offering a very tiny square ad space (almost as small as a dot) on her sidebar for $100 each and people are buying it! Another sidebar also says she is getting 20k views daily. She has a PR of 5 and Alexa Rank of 37,111.

Those numbers doesn't immediately translate to money but with those traffic and statistics, I'll leave it up to you to think about how much they are making.

Quirk SearchStatus: How To Automatically Check Dofollow And Nofollow Links

If you work are doing SEO, then you are most likely intersted in checking if the links on a certain page is dofollow or nofollow. The way to do that is of course, check the HTML code and see if the link code has the rel="nofollow" attribute on it. This can be a time consuming task. But there is a faster, better way to do it.

Quirk SearchStatus is a Firefox Add-on that automatically highlights nofollow links on a certain webpage among several other useful functions. It also automatically gives you a web page's Page Rank and Alexa Ranks.

DoFollow Search - A Great Tool For Link Building

Want to get a few high-PR backlinks to your blog easily? Then this is for you.

Leaving comments has always been a good practice in SEO. But links to your blog alone are not enough. Though they may attract attention and occasional visits to your blog, it would be more beneficial if the comments are do-follows. And with blogging platforms automatically using no-follow on their comment author links, its really hard to find dofollow blogs.

Add to that, even if you do find a do follow blog, chances are its not related to your niche. So the link won't be as effective.

How do we resolve this?

I have found DoFollow Search. This search engine searches for specific blog posts that use dofollow links. That means you get the backlink from the niche you need!

They do have occasional mistakes wherein they would return results where the blog post uses nofollow. But still, most of my searche results come from dofollow blog posts.

Just remember to always keep your comments relevant and meaningful.

2 Ways How To Display HMTL Codes On Your Blog

If you are not familiar with HTML you will find this topic very useful. Have you ever tried to post HTML codes on your blog but but couldn't? Here's how to move around that obstacle.

For example, you are creating a blogroll, and you want to post the exact HTML code you want other bloggers to post on their site. You can't just put in the exact HTML:

<a href="http://carlodimaandal.com">Carlo Dimaandal</a>

Because when you publish you post, the browser will read adn interpret the code you'll just get this:

I know of two ways to display HTML codes into your blog.

1. Use the <textarea> [your HTMLcode here] </textarea> code.

The above is the default size of a textarea. You get a scroll bar at the side if the entire content cannot be displayed in the box.

But you can set the width and height of the text area with the rows and cols attributes:

<textarea rows=5 cols=15> </textarea>

2. Another way is to parse your code. Simply use this tool and paste your HTML code on the box then click Parse.

You then paste the new parsed code on your blog and when you publish it, it will display the HTML code.

No Infolinks Earnings For Saturday - March 27, 2010?

I'm a little OC on stats. I know its not healthy and I'm working on it. I tend to check my earnings and traffic a *bit* too often. And most of the time, there's no need to. Except for this one time.

I noticed that I don't have any earnings posted on my Infolinks for march 27, 2010.

This is kind of a problem for me because its almost the end of the month and I want to see if I have reached the $50 payout for Infolinks. If I did, this will be my first payout from the program. Also, March 27 is kind of a big day because UFC 111 was held on that day and I did get a spike on my traffic. I contacted Infolinks but haven't got any response yet. I checked around the Internets and there seems to be no problems with other accounts so I think this is an isolated issue.

Anyway, I hope this gets fixed soon.

My First Adsense Western Union Payment

This is one of the perks of blogging. Moolah! Hehe though I don't earn that much yet. Not like those big time bloggers. Maybe someday I will. I hope.

This is not my first Google money. I've had my first Adsense payout before but I used a check for it.

As excited as I was, I was also a little pessimistic about it because of the issue I had last year. My payout was just a little above $100 but I'm not complaining. Too bad, I didn't reach the payout this month. But importantly, one of my blogs that died down last December is back! In fact, if all goes well, with the few remaining days in March, I might just reach that $100 payout. If not, I'll surely hit it next month. My Infolinks is nearing its payout too. That's because they lowered their minimum payment to $50.

Anyway, my Western Union transaction went by smoothly. There was no need to feel pessimistic at all. I had no trouble with the Payee Names whatsoever. They didn't honor my TIN ID though. I thought a TIN ID was a valid legal ID. Good thing they acdepted my Postal ID. I guess it also helped that the employee I was talking to got some good news from her boss while she was helping me. It put all the employess in the branch in a good mood. They were getting extra pays for the holidays from what I've heard. I would have been jealous but hey, if you're making money online by blogging, everyday can be a holiday. =)

I filled up some forms and after that it was "no questions asked." Another thing though - I had to get the payment in dollars. I had the option to get it in pesos but their exchange rate at the time was so low - just around 44 Php! They gave me the $100 in dollars and the extra amount in pesos because they didn't have smaller dollar bills. That was ok since I was running low on cash anyway.

What do you need to get your Adsense money from Western Union?

Set your Adsense payment method to Western Union. - this is by far the most convenient. You can get the money one day after it is issued and all you need are the following:

* The amount of your payment
* The Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) for this payment
* Your government issued ID (Passport, Driver's License, National ID, etc)
* Sender's information:
Google Inc.

Mountain View, CA 94043

Each payment has its own MTCN or Money Transfer Control Number. You can get your MTCN by going to your Adsense account --> My Account --> Payment History.

Then look for the Payment issued under Description. There should be a details link next to it. Click on the details link.

When Someone Copies Your Content...

They say imitation is the biggest form of flattery. If that's the case, I don't want some people to flatter me.

I think this is one of the worst things that can happen to a blogger. To have your content copied. It sucks. Copyright infringement happens everywhere online - music, videos, pictures, even blog posts!

I have a HITLOD / Google Trends blog where I target HITLOD keywords that don't fall within the niche of my other blogs. Naturally it is updated more often and it is the most SEO-friendly among my blogs. Therefore, it attracts all sorts of visitors, even undesirable ones.

When I started to target keywords on that blog, that's when I started to experience this. I thought it was bad but when I saw they the stated my blog as the source, it felt just fine. First, I was expecting that they gave me do-follow links, but they didn't. There were even times when they just put in the URL of my post - no links. But it was ok as long as they stated me as the source. And these were all foreign blogs.

Sadly I have experienced a different situation with some local fellow bloggers. I find Filipino blogs copying off my content and not stating me as the author. I know my posts on that blog are not works of art. Hell, they even seem sploggy sometimes. But the thing is, I wrote them. I invested the time and effort to research on the subject and write about it. One time I let the blogger slip thinking it will not happen again. But another post was copied. They just copied two paragraphs of text, just around 10 sentences! How hard is it to make up your own two paragraphs of content about a certain subject? I mean, they are bloggers, and not only bloggers but SEO-knowledgeable bloggers - searching the Internet for information should not be so hard for them.

What to do:

I still believe in second chances. If I find a copied post for the first time, I let it slip. But I monitor that blog for several days. If I find another post copied again, I leave a comment on that blog to let the blogger know that I know what they are doing and its not ok with me. If they continue, I file a DMCA report or file a complain to their webhost.

But just today, out of irritation, I just left a comment on another blog even though its the first time I saw them copy off from one of my posts.

It adds insult to the injury too, when you find that their blog post that they copied ranks higher in the SERP's than yours. If they can find the time to SEO their post/blog, why can't they find the time to write? I swear it didn't take me more than 10 minutes to write any post on that blog since I never meant for it to be super informative.

Luckily though, I have not filed a DMCA report against anyone yet and I hope I won't have to, ever. I have disabled the right-click on that blog as a way to prevent copying of content. But I know that that is a weak defense. Any fairly-knowledgeable and determined computer person can find a way around that. If there was a way to disable the Copy or CTRL + C function on a webpage, I'd definitely do it.

In most cases, there is nothing wrong with copying text content but please, oh please, state your source!

How about keywords? As the name implies, they are just words. You can copy them. Hell, you can copy every single keyword targeted by another blog if you like. I see a lot of bloggers do it. Even I do it. When I see a potential keyword I can exploit from another blog, I use it. As far as I know, no one owns keywords. When you write a post about a certain keyword, you are exposing that keyword to your competition and they can easily use it for their benefit and vice versa.

I see some Google Trends blogs with nearly identical posts because of the same keywords that are targeted. But most of them write their own content for the keyword. That is what's important! If you don't know anything about the keyword, do research. If you don't want to, be honest! Write in your post - "I am not that familiar..." or something like that. Then write something relevant related to the keyword. But never, ever copy off other people's posts and not credit them.

When To Target High Density Keywords

Looking back, the HITLOD concept taught us that we should be looking for hi-traffic and low density keywords. Honestly, these keywords are hard to find since its hard for the two attributes to co-exist. That is, if a keywords is hi-traffic, you can expect a lot of people optimizing for it, and thus, a lot of competition. Right? Not always.

Some keywords return lots of results because of the popularity of the subject. But that does not necessarily mean that all those results are SEO'ed.

Moving on...

Since the two attributes (hi-traffic, low-density) seldom co-exist, we must sometimes give up one. So what would you give up? For me I'd give up low-density. There is no point optimizing for a low density keyword if there is no traffic for it right?

So now lets target high-traffic, high-density keywords.

But first, lets take a look at this: The way I see it (based from hours of surfing the Internet day-in and day-out), there are two ways a webpage or blog post gets on Google's number one spot:

Conscious SEO - properly optimized with the right SEO tools. The webmaster or blogger is very knowledgeable in SEO. It will be hard to compete with this.

Unconscious SEO - An unknowing blogger or webmaster who "somehow" got lucky and ranked high. This is what we need to compete with.

How can you tell if a highly-ranked search result got there unconsciously? Here are some indications that a blog post or webpage "got lucky."

Title - the title of the blog post or web page does not contain some of the keyword/s. The title may also contain just the synonyms of the keyword you serached for.

Keyword usage - the keywords are not used enough on the post and they are not high-lighted (bold, italicized)

Niche - although sometimes related, the niche of the blog/website is sometimes not directly associated to the keyword/s.

Also, as you become more and more familiar with SEO, you can tell in a single glance if a page has been optimized or not.

How did they get there?

Content is king. Though that webpage or blog post might not have been optmized properly for the keyword, it managed to create enough inbound links from its readers and sent it to the top spot.

Authority. The ranking could have also come from the webiste/blog's overall authority/PR. Even if the webpage/post itself does not have enough inbound links pointing to it, the website or blog might have been old enough or established enough to convince the search eninges to rank its posts/webpages high even if its not SEO'ed.

How do I topple it? On-page optimization - here are a few SEO basics. Since we know that the competition most likely has an established domain and a sufficient number of backlinks, we attack it first on its weak spot. And then slowly build your links. Its that simple.

Think of it as a one-on-one game of basketball between a shorter player who knows how to play (you) and a taller player who does not know how to play. The taller player might have certain obvious advantages but since you have the skills and knowledge of the game, you are likely to beat him. =)

I managed to rank number 1 in a keyword that has more than 33 million results. That's because no has optimized for it. All I did was fix the blog's titles and threw in some links and I was on top within around two weeks. And that blog is just around three months old. I toppled established websites/blogs.

Too bad for me, that keyword was not that hi-traffic (no graph in Google Trends, I guess thats also why no one optimized for it.) That's because I had intended it to be a niche blog. I was not looking at SE visitors as a main source of traffic. I just had this theory about a few weeks ago and wanted to test it out. And what do you know, it works!

Now all I need to do is make some minor adjustments in a few titles and anchor texts and hope that it will rank number 1 for a high traffic keyword. tip: you can twist and turn; add and subtract words in the keyword/s you are targetting and check them in Google Trends to find out which one is most searched for.

The HITLOD concept has been around the make money online community for quite a while now. I first found out about this from bloggers macuha.com and zdiaz.com. Visit them if you want to learn more about SEO. They have an amazing e-book.

What does HITLOD mean? HITLOD is a type of keywords. HITLOD stands for High-traffic, Low-density. As the description implies, these are keywords with that bring in high-traffic (often searched for) but are low in density(low competition).

High-traffic - a rule of the thumb for determining if a keyword is high-traffic is using Google Trends. (didn't I tell you Google is your bestfriend?) These are the keywords that are most searched for. To bring in high-traffic, you want to target a keyword that many people are searching for. Its no use ranking high for a keyword that no one will search for right? I classify them into three types:

Historical Keywords - If a certain keyword has a graph in Google Trends, you can bet it was and is most probably still being frequently searched for by people. But since Google Trends relies on historical data (real-time results still rely on the searches in the last few hours), there is a hole in this system. You cannot rely on this alone. The good thing about this is that since you have historical data, you can bet that the keywords are indeed high-traffic.

Current Keywords - Its a little harder to search for current keywords. These are the keywords that are exploding at the very moment. The best source for this is the TV. You can check the news if they mention something odd or if there some details or pieces of information that were not discussed clearly, incompletely or not mentioned at all. Think of something that might drive the people to the search engines. This is more applicable for more established blogs - those blogs whose new posts are indexed within minutes. Its a little harder to get these kind of keywords but if you strike gold, you get a ton of traffic as not a lot of bloggers are targetting these keywords.

Tip: Local channel Qtv airs The CBS Evening news at 1pm everyday. You can watch this to target American traffic.

Future Keywords - These are keywords that you think people will search for in time. Sports events are the most popular examples of these keywords. Whenever there upcoming football, mma, boxing or professional wrestling events, people scramble to the search engines to look for fight schedules, fight cards, live streams, results, replay videos and such. Just get these information beforehand and optimize for your keywords. Its good that you have a lot of time to optimize for your precious keywords but the drawback is you can expect that there is going to be some tough competition for the keywords.

Low-density - this is checking if you have competition for the keywords you pick. Naturally, more in-demand keywords are going to be more competitive. Unless you are planning to exert extra effort for your keywords, I suggest targetting keywords with around 500,000 competitors, the less the better. For example the keyword "make money online" has 152,000,000 results. If you want to target it, you are competing agianst 152,000,000 other websites! But the more experienced you are in the field, you will feel more confident tackling higher-density keywords.

A lot of blogs are targetting Google Trends keywords alone. While it may be effective on some keywords, you have a lot of competition for these keywords. And most of the keywords become low-traffic after some time.

Got it? Good. Now go target those keywords!

My Google Adsense PIN Was Sent To Thailand

One of the most exciting part of being an Adsense publisher when you are starting out is getting your Adsense PIN. It makes you feel that you are really into the online money making world.

For me, I received my Adsense PIN three times. Yes, three times. I got my first one without any problems. But I had some issues with that account and I had to close it and re-open a new one. On my second account, I noticed that its been three weeks and I still haven't had my PIN. So I requested for a new one and got my PIN a few days later. I now have a fully verified Adsense account.

Just this morning, I got another PIN with something funny written on it.

Missent To Thailand

LOL. I don't know if this is the original PIN or the one I requested for. Probably this is the original one and this is why it took so long. Doesn't matter, my Adsense account is verified anyway.

But what if that had been an Adsense check? Its things like these why its more advisable to use Western Union instead of getting a check mailed to you.

Dirty Tactics: Hiding Home

One of the top frustrations of someone who is trying to make money online has got be CTR or click-through rate/ratio. That is, how much of your visitors are clicking on your ads and making you money.

To increase your CTR, first you have to increase traffic. There's no way around it, traffic will always be the first thing you need to make money online. Small traffic would not be a very good reflection of your blog's real CTR. More readers -> more clicks -> more money. But its frustrating to work on your traffic and see 1 to 2 thousand unique visitors daily and get just around five clicks. You have to experiment with your ad placement and put ads where people will see them. Effective ad placements are on the header section, within the post or directly after the post.

It just sickens me that some people have to be sneaky and trick their readers just to get some clicks. I'm talking about those who remove or hide (as transparent buttons) the home button and place their ad banners (mostly graphic) one top. This disguises the ad banners as the home button. We know most websites uses the banner graphics as a link to their main page. If you put your graphic banner ad there and remove or hide the home button, readers will naturally think that the ad is the home button and click on it. How sneaky!

Its not wrong to place ads on the header section of your blog, so long as the navigation of your blog is still clear to your readers.

Whats more annoying is that aesthetically pleasing blogs do this too. I can somewhat understand if the blogger is design-challeged and is having a hard time making his blog look good and leaves out a few details. But its irritating to see a well-designed blog (supposedly) that has no home button. I am left to think that the blogger purposely hid or removed his home button to increase his CTR.

Why should not do this.

Though you may have an increase in your CTR, the cost is potentially greater. An reader might click on an ad and get directed to another website without him knowing it. He is left dumbfound and reader experience is greatly compromised. There is very little chance that that reader will be coming back since he found your blog confusing and hard to navigate.

I am pissed by this technique and I do not recommend it.

How To Put "Related Posts" Widget At The Bottom Of Your Post

Here is a very useful addition to any blog. We put a related post widget to increase reader engagement and reduce bounce rate. We want our readers to stay in our blog after they read post after post. And how do we do that? By offering something more of what they need/want.

Here are the two easiest ways to put a related post widget on your Blogger blog:

1. HTML - Go to the Edit HTML section of your blog. Layout --> Edit HTML.

Then check on Expand Widget Templates. It will load for a while when you check on it.

After it loads, look for this code: (you can use CTRL + F)

What is SEO?

SEO means Search Engine Optimization or Search Engine Optimizer (the person). The whole idea is to get your content as the top result of the search engine results page (SERP) when people search on seach engines like Google. For example, you have a blog about gardening. You'd like your blog to appear on top when people search for the term "gardening" or "gardening tips" or any related keyword.

How are the rankings determined? Search engines have continuously evolving algorithms to determine which websites deserve to be one the top of their search results.

The main thing that search engines are looking for though, are links. If a lot of other blogs or websites link to you, search engines see your blog as an authority. The gist of SEO is getting as much inbound links to your blog as possible. The more inbound links you get, the more link juice or Google juice you have.

How do I get links?

You can pay for them. But that is quite expensive and unpopular among bloggers and personal (non-pro) SEO practitioners.

The best option is to write quality content. If you write quality content, people will link to your blog naturally. For example, since I am writing about SEO, I also want you to check out this SEO website since that website is a very good source of SEO information.

Create your own. If you have the time and effort, you can create several blogs and websites and use those to create inbound links.

Are all links the same?

No.

Links from similar-concept websites give more link juice. For example, if a gardening blog gets an inbound link from a video game website, its not as good as getting a link from another gardening blog.

PR - Page Rank. Google ranks websites from 0 to 10. The higher the rank, the more link juice that blog or website gives. For example, one link from a PR 4 blog is better than five links from five PR 1 blogs. Though the real importance of PR is somewhat debatable in SEO because some low-PR blogs still manage to rank well in SERP's. But its better to maintain a good PR to establish a good web reputation. You can check a website's page rank here.

Do-Follow and No-follow. Links can also be classified into two categories - do-follow and no-follow. Do-follow links pass on link juice. But no-follow links don't give out link juice. That means even if you get a link form a high-pr webiste, if that link is a no-follow link, its no good. How do you know if a link follows or not? Long way is to check the source code of a web page. A no-follow link has rel="nofollow" in the link's code.

Almost all commenting systems on blogs all over the internet use no-follow. That means even if you leave a comment on high-pr blogs with your links on it, it wouldn't do you any SEO good. There are however, a few blogs that use do-follow comments like my blog.

This is just the very basic concept of SEO. There are a lot more things to consider. A good thing to remember too is that SEO is both an art and science. Its not a specific process that works with a specific formula. Sometimes, especially when you are starting out, its a hit-or-miss process.

Here are a few basic SEO techniques you can do to improve the SEO of your blog.

Use the keyword on your post title. Simple enough right?

Use the keyword on your post. But don't spam your post with your keyword because the search engines will notice that and they might penalize your post or worse, your blog.

Use your keyword as your anchor text. But use variations. Don't use the exact same anchor text everytime.

Create links. Create a few inbound links to your post immediately after publication. But do not overdo it. Around five links will do. Creating a huge number of links immediately will most likely get your penalized. You have to make the link building look as natural as possible.

Be Bold. Use the bold attribute for all the keywords you are targetting within your post.

Moving To A New Domain? Consider Your Alexa Rank

I just got a free .com domain for my main blog. And when I did, my Alexa Rank was nuked.

Alexa is (almost) a universally accepted measure of Internet credibility. If you are banking on your blog/website's reputation be sure your are not caught off-guard when your Alexa rank gets nuked. Once you have the right tools for blogging, You can start to blog for money.

Before creating a new blog, consider a few things:

Pick a topic you are passionate about. I am gonna be honest at this point, some topics or niches are more lucrative than others. But those topics are of no use to you if you can't produce quality content. Pick a topic you want to write about. Pick a topic that you think you can write about on a (preferably) daily basis. Do not pick something you think is hot and lucrative but you know nothing about and just simply don't care about.

This determination is very short-lived I tell you. Because it'll all boil down to your passion towards what you are writing about. Consider this - writers who write about their passion gets tired from time to time too, what more for those who are writing about something they don't care about. Furthermore, since you are not passionate about the topic, it'll be hard to pump out quality content. You'll need quality content to attract more readers and more traffic especially in a very competitive topic/niche. But if you are passionate enough about a topic, you can produce quality content more naturally.

I am not saying that you don't explore and stay confined within your comfort zone. But before you get more adventurous, its good to have a good feel of how blogging for money works. Once you're comfortable enough, feel free to research and seek out other niches that you think you can compete in.

First of all, I am no expert. Its not even a year since I started trying to make money online. I just want to share with you the things that have been working for me.

There are several ways to make money online. But for me the easiest has to be blogging.

Blogger - An excellent blogging platform for you to learn how to start blogging. If you are already a blogger but are using other blogging platforms, I suggest learning blogger too. If you are new to blogging, this will be the best place to start. No, Blogger is not the best blogging platform but its the place to start.

Adsense - This is your primary money maker. This is your bestest friend. Remember to read the Terms and Conditions, understand it and follow it. If you have an active Blogger account, its easier to get accepted in Adsense.

Web Master Tools - This can be a little overwhelming for beginners. Especially if you have no significant Internet or computing background. But learning it is easy. If it looks too complicated, just sign-up first and learn how to use it later.

Feedburner - For feeds management. This is so that you can manage your blog's feeds.

Analytics - Even if this is a little complicated, I suggest trying to learn it as soon as possible. This tool will allow you to monitor you blog's traffic. Traffic is the most important thing you need for your blog. No traffic, no money.

So by now, you understand that Google is your best friend. If you love Google, good. If not, you're gonna learn to. =)

If you make money online, you most likely use Google Adsense. Most of us do. Here is something you should know about when using Adsense.

This is Google AdSense Section Targeting. Adsense uses contextual ads and checks your content and your reader's cookies among others to determine which ads are to be displayed. Section Targeting will help Adsense find out which the most relevant part of your content so that the ads are more targeted.

For example, if you write about hotel reservations and mention something random like video games or something unrelated, you dont want Adsense to pickup on the unrelated keywords and display less relevant ads. Registering UnionBank EON Card For Online Banking

Today, I finally got my Union Bank EON card. I was not able to get it yesterday. I can finally verify my Paypal account and encash my Google checks.

After I got it, I deposited my Google checks from my previous Adsense account. Im glad that they accepted it even though it had no "Emmanuel" in it. Alos, I almost forgot the piece of paper on the desk that had my initial PIN when I filled up the deposit form. I was already outside the bank when I remembered. Luckily it was still there when I returned for it. I then quickly changed my PIN afterwards.

When I got home, I tried to register it to EON Online banking for online transactions.

How do you register?

Visit the EON Registration Page.
Its gonna ask for your ATM Card Number and your PIN.

You will then be asked for 3 user ID's. I guess its so that they can quickly assign another if your first choice is already taken. In my case, my first choice was good.

Union Bank Closes Before 4 PM

It might be just me. I am not well versed with banking hours. I was under the impression that banks operated on the standard office hours of 7 am to 4 or 5 pm except BDO which is open until 7pm and during Saturdays.

But today, when I went to out local Union Bank branch to get my EON card, I was surprised. I got there just past 3 pm or 3:14pm on my watch to be exact. But when I went to the main door, no security guard was on duty and the doors were "locked" with a security baton. I tried the other door where all the security guards are sitting and I was greeted by a sign -

WE'RE CLOSED

I was supposed to get a haircut afterwards but meh, I don't feel like it anymore. I feel really bad because I had nothing else to do today. I could have gone earlier but I didn't because I thought they'd be open till 4 or 5 pm.

I just recently realized that I am eligible for my first payout with Chitika. I got a whopping $12.42! =)

I know its not much compared to other money makers like Adsense or Infolinks but $10 is $10. I didn't expect it to compete with other ad programs anyway. I am talking about Ziddu.

Ziddu is like Megaupload and Rapishare but it needs no premium accounts. Downloaders don't need a premium account to download more content and they can download several files at a time.

The interface is very easy too. Just upload a file on Ziddu. After you upload a file, they will give you a download link for that file. Everytime someone downloads your content, you get a paid. They pay via Paypal too.

Your account has unlimited disk space and everything is %100 free.

Whats good about Ziddu is that the clicks that are supposedly stolen from your ads are still monetized. If your content suggests downloading a file, so instead of clicking on your ads, your readers are going to click on your download button. But the good thing is you can still monetize that.

Tip: if you have picture downloads, disable the right-click button on your image to avoid manual downloads by adding oncontextmenu='return false' attribute on the img code. Then put a download link at the bottom of the image or make the image itself a clickable link.
